Kick Stream Translation Setup Guide — Add Subtitles in 60 Seconds

March 2026 · 6 min read · By StreamTranslate Team

Kick is one of the fastest-growing live streaming platforms of 2025–2026, with millions of daily viewers and a creator-first monetization model. Unlike Twitch and YouTube, X, and TikTok, Kick currently has no native captioning system — every viewer watches your stream without subtitles unless you add them yourself. With StreamTranslate, you can have real-time translated captions running on your Kick stream in under 60 seconds using a simple OBS browser source.

This guide is specifically for Kick streamers who want to reach international audiences and give all viewers — including deaf and hard-of-hearing — an accessible stream experience.

Why Subtitles Matter on Kick

Kick's international viewer base is growing rapidly, particularly in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. If you're streaming in English and not providing any form of subtitles, you're invisible to a large portion of the platform's most engaged demographics. Streamers who add Spanish or Portuguese translations often report immediate engagement increases in chat from viewers who were watching silently before.

Beyond international reach, captions make your stream accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers — a community that actively seeks out streamers who acknowledge their needs. See our post on captions for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers for more on this audience.

Setup Steps for Kick + StreamTranslate

1

Get your overlay URL from StreamTranslate

Log in at streamtranslate.live/control. Select your source language and target translation language. Click Generate — copy the overlay URL provided.

2

Add Browser Source in OBS

In OBS, go to your main scene → Sources → click + → Browser. Name it "Kick Subtitles". Paste the overlay URL. Set dimensions to 1920 × 1080. Uncheck "Use custom frame rate" for stability.

3

Configure OBS for Kick RTMPS

Go to OBS Settings → Stream. Set Service to Custom. Set the server to rtmps://fa723fc1b171.global-contribute.live-video.net/app/ and paste your Kick stream key (found in Kick Dashboard → Channel → Stream Key). Click OK.

4

Adjust encoding settings for Kick

Kick recommends: Video Bitrate 6000–8000 Kbps, Encoder H.264, Audio Bitrate 160 Kbps, Keyframe Interval 2 seconds. These settings ensure stable streaming while leaving enough CPU headroom for the subtitle browser source.

5

Start streaming and verify

Click Start Streaming in OBS. Open your Kick channel in a browser and watch the preview. Speak a sentence — subtitles should appear within 1–2 seconds on your overlay.

Kick tip: Kick viewers tend to use mobile devices more than desktop. Make sure your subtitle font size is at least 28px so text is readable on small screens. Adjust this in the StreamTranslate dashboard under Overlay Settings → Font Size.

OBS Settings Optimized for Kick

Kick's infrastructure handles high-bitrate streams well. For the best quality with subtitles running:

  • Set Output Mode to Advanced in OBS Settings → Output
  • Use NVENC (NVIDIA) or AMD VCE hardware encoding if available — this reduces CPU load for the browser source
  • Set Profile to High, Level to Auto
  • Enable "Psycho Visual Tuning" for better visual quality at the same bitrate

Adding Multiple Language Subtitles

Want to show Spanish AND Portuguese subtitles? Create two separate browser sources in OBS — one for each language — and position them at different vertical heights on screen. StreamTranslate supports stacking multiple overlays. For a full list of supported languages, check the StreamTranslate dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Kick have built-in captions or subtitles?

Kick does not currently offer built-in auto-captions. StreamTranslate adds a real-time subtitle overlay through OBS that is visible to all viewers watching your Kick stream.

What OBS settings should I use for Kick?

Kick recommends RTMPS streaming. In OBS go to Settings → Stream, set Service to Custom, enter the Kick RTMPS URL and your stream key from your Kick dashboard. Use 6000–8000 Kbps video bitrate.

Can I translate my Kick stream into multiple languages at once?

Yes — create separate browser sources for each language and layer them in OBS at different vertical positions. Each overlay runs independently and can show a different target translation language.
