Setup Guide

Live in 60 seconds.

StreamTranslate runs as a browser source in any streaming software. Pick yours below and follow the steps.

OBS Studio
Free, open-source — the most popular streaming software for PC streamers.
01
Step 1
Open your StreamTranslate dashboard
Go to streamtranslate.live/control. Sign up or log in, then pick your source language and the language you want to translate into.
02
Step 2
Copy your OBS overlay URL
On the dashboard, find the OBS URL field and copy it. Your URL will look like:
streamtranslate.live/overlay?room=YOUR-ROOM-ID
This URL is unique to your stream. Keep it private.
03
Step 3
Add a Browser Source in OBS
In OBS Studio, find the Sources panel at the bottom. Click + and select Browser. Name it anything.
Sources → + → Browser
04
Step 4
Paste the URL, set size, add CSS
Paste your overlay URL in the URL field. Set width 1920 and height 1080. In Custom CSS, paste this to remove the white background:
body { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) !important; }
Click OK.
05
Step 5
Click Go Live and start streaming
On your StreamTranslate dashboard, click Go Live. Then start your stream in OBS. Subtitles appear for your viewers within 2 seconds.
If subtitles don't appear: confirm you clicked Go Live on the dashboard AND the Browser Source is visible in your active OBS scene.
Streamlabs
Streamlabs Desktop — all-in-one streaming app with built-in alerts and overlays.
01
Step 1
Copy your overlay URL
On the StreamTranslate dashboard, select your languages and copy the OBS URL. Streamlabs uses the same browser source system as OBS.
streamtranslate.live/overlay?room=YOUR-ROOM-ID
02
Step 2
Add a Browser Source
In Streamlabs Desktop, go to your Sources panel and click the + icon. Select Browser Source.
Sources → + → Browser Source
03
Step 3
Configure the source
Paste your overlay URL, set width 1920 and height 1080. In the Custom CSS field:
body { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) !important; }
Click Done.
04
Step 4
Layer it at the top
Drag the Browser Source to the top of your source list so subtitles appear above your game, camera, and other layers.
05
Step 5
Go Live
Click Go Live on your StreamTranslate dashboard, then start streaming in Streamlabs. Subtitles appear as you speak.
Streamlabs and OBS use the same browser source system — setup is nearly identical.
Meld Studio
Free modern streaming app with built-in multistreaming and effects. OBS-compatible setup.
01
Step 1
Copy your overlay URL
On the StreamTranslate dashboard, pick your source and target language, then copy the OBS URL. Meld uses the same format.
streamtranslate.live/overlay?room=YOUR-ROOM-ID
02
Step 2
Add a Browser Source in Meld
In Meld Studio, click + in your Sources panel and select Browser Source. Paste your StreamTranslate overlay URL.
Sources → + → Browser Source
03
Step 3
Set size and transparency
Set width 1920 and height 1080. In the Custom CSS field:
body { background: transparent !important; }
This removes the white background so only subtitles show.
04
Step 4
Position the overlay
Drag the browser source to the top of your source stack so subtitles appear above all other layers. Resize to fill the full canvas if needed.
05
Step 5
Go Live
Click Go Live on your StreamTranslate dashboard, then start your stream in Meld Studio. Translated subtitles appear in real-time.
Meld Studio uses the same browser source system as OBS — setup is nearly identical.
StreamElements
SE.Live OBS plugin — StreamTranslate works alongside your existing SE overlays.
01
Step 1
Copy your overlay URL
On the StreamTranslate dashboard, select your languages and copy the OBS URL.
streamtranslate.live/overlay?room=YOUR-ROOM-ID
02
Step 2
Add a Browser Source in OBS
StreamElements (SE.Live) is a plugin inside OBS Studio. Add StreamTranslate as a regular OBS Browser Source — it runs independently of SE.Live.
OBS → Sources → + → Browser
03
Step 3
Configure the browser source
Paste your overlay URL, set 1920 × 1080, and add the transparency CSS:
body { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) !important; }
Click OK.
04
Step 4
Layer it above SE.Live
In the OBS Sources panel, drag the StreamTranslate source above your SE.Live overlay layer. Alerts, chatbox, and StreamTranslate subtitles all display simultaneously — no conflicts.
05
Step 5
Go Live
Click Go Live on your StreamTranslate dashboard, then start streaming. Subtitles run alongside your StreamElements overlays with no interference.
StreamElements and StreamTranslate are fully independent. Your existing alerts and widgets keep working exactly as before.
Twitch / YouTube Studio
Built-in studio apps. Beginner-friendly, browser-based — no download required.
01
Step 1
Copy your overlay URL
On the StreamTranslate dashboard, select your languages and copy the OBS URL.
streamtranslate.live/overlay?room=YOUR-ROOM-ID
02
Step 2
Open the scene editor
In the Twitch or YouTube Studio app, click Edit Scene on your current scene to open the layer editor.
Studio app → Edit Scene
03
Step 3
Add a Browser Source layer
Click Add Layer and select Browser Source. Paste your StreamTranslate overlay URL and set the size to 1920 × 1080.
Add Layer → Browser Source
04
Step 4
Move it to the top
Drag the StreamTranslate layer to the top of your layer list so subtitles appear above your game and camera. Click Done.
05
Step 5
Go Live
Click Go Live on your StreamTranslate dashboard, then go live in the Studio app. Viewers see subtitles appear as you speak.
The built-in studio apps have fewer customization options than OBS. For more control over subtitle positioning, OBS Studio is free and recommended.
