Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum data needed to operate the service:

• Email address — collected during account creation to identify your account and send essential service communications.
• Browser fingerprint — a non-identifying hash used solely for tracking free trial usage limits. This is not linked to your personal identity.
• Twitch Channel ID — if you use the StreamTranslate Twitch Extension, your Twitch channel ID is collected to link your Twitch channel to your StreamTranslate account. Separately, Twitch sign-in or an explicit channel connection may provide your verified channel ID, display name, profile image, channel URL, and email when available.

Connected Accounts & YouTube

When you choose a supported sign-in provider or connect an account, we retain its stable account identifier and available profile information to recognize you and keep your StreamTranslate account, plan, and usage together. Google sign-in can provide your name, profile image, and verified email. A connected streaming channel can provide its channel ID, title, profile image, and channel URL.

YouTube connection uses read-only YouTube access to verify a channel you own through the YouTube Data API. We retrieve the channel profile, not your private videos, playlists, or viewing activity. We do not upload, edit, or delete YouTube content. The connected profile appears in Connected socials; its public channel information may also appear in our streamer directory so viewers can find your channel. Google and YouTube profile data is not used for advertising, sold, or sent to our speech, translation, or AI providers.

If you explicitly request Twitch or Kick stream-key retrieval, we ask for the separate stream-key permission and store your returned stream URL and key encrypted, attached to your account. These credentials help you configure your own phone app or encoder. They are revealed or copied only when you request them and are not shown in our public directory. You can remove saved credentials with “Forget saved key”; deleting your account also removes them. Removing our saved copy does not rotate your platform key or revoke the platform permission. You may revoke permission or reset the key in the platform’s own settings.

OAuth access and refresh tokens for these explicit social connections are not retained after the profile is retrieved. Stored connected-profile records are retained while your account is active and removed when you delete your StreamTranslate account. You can revoke Google access at Google Account connections, or contact [email protected] to request removal of a connected profile. Revoking provider access does not by itself delete profile information already stored by StreamTranslate.

StreamTranslate's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We never receive, store, or have access to your full credit card number, CVV, or billing details. Stripe handles all payment data in accordance with PCI-DSS standards.

3. Audio Processing

During active streaming sessions, your microphone audio is sent in real time to advanced AI for speech-to-text transcription. By default, StreamTranslate does not store this audio.

During an active microphone session, your browser may keep an in-memory rolling buffer of up to the last three minutes for error diagnosis. The buffer is discarded when the session ends and is not sent to StreamTranslate by default. If a qualifying technical audio error occurs, you will be asked whether you want to send the buffered clip. If you decline, no diagnostic audio is uploaded. If you approve, the clip is uploaded, encrypted at rest, made available only to authorized administrators for troubleshooting, and automatically deleted within 24 hours. Audio is never used to train AI models without separate explicit consent.

Uploaded Video Translation

When you upload a video for translation, we temporarily store it to process your job. Audio is sent to Soniox for transcription and translation. Original uploads, extracted audio, and working files are deleted after processing completes or fails. Incomplete uploads expire after 24 hours.

Your finished subtitled video is stored privately for up to seven days from completion so you can download it again, then it is automatically deleted. Signing in with an email code lets you find your videos on other devices. Paying links the job to the StreamTranslate account associated with your checkout email; it does not subscribe you to a streaming plan. File names, job timing, and payment records are retained separately from the video files.

4. Translation

Transcribed text is sent to third-party machine translation providers to generate real-time translations. To improve translation speed and accuracy, we may save individual translated word and phrase pairs to our own database. These stored pairs are kept completely on their own — with no account, user, session, or timestamp information attached — so there is no way to connect a stored phrase to who said it or when.

5. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. This may collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, session duration, and general geographic region. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using a browser extension or adjusting your browser settings.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

StreamTranslate uses cookies and similar technologies for two purposes: essential functionality (we store a session token in your browser's localStorage to keep you signed in) and analytics & advertising. We work with third-party providers — including Google (Analytics & Ads), Meta, TikTok, Reddit, and PostHog — who may set cookies to measure site traffic and advertising performance. You can control or disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings.

7. Data Retention

Your account data (email address and usage records) is retained for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your data will be removed from our systems. Normal streaming audio is not persisted. Diagnostic audio that you explicitly approve after an error is retained for no longer than 24 hours.

8. Third-Party Services

StreamTranslate integrates the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy policy:

• advanced AI — speech-to-text transcription. Privacy Policy

• Analytics & advertising partners — Google (Analytics & Ads), Meta, TikTok, Reddit, and PostHog, for traffic measurement and advertising performance.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third parties for marketing purposes.

9. Twitch Extension

StreamTranslate offers a Twitch Extension that displays real-time translated subtitles on live streams. When using the extension:

• Broadcaster data: We collect only the Twitch channel ID (a numeric identifier) to link the extension to a StreamTranslate account. No Twitch display names, emails, or profile data are collected from Twitch.
• Viewer data: Viewers who use the extension's language picker have their language preference stored locally in their browser (localStorage). No viewer data is sent to or stored on StreamTranslate servers. We do not collect viewer identities, Twitch usernames, or any personally identifiable information from viewers.
• Per-viewer translation: When a viewer selects a language different from the streamer's target language, the original transcript text is sent to our translation API. No viewer identity is attached to these requests.
• Extension settings: Viewer display preferences (font size, text color, box style) are stored locally in the viewer's browser and are never transmitted to our servers.

10. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
• Portability — request your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
• Objection — object to processing of your data for certain purposes.
• Opt-out of sale — we do not sell personal data. California residents (CCPA) have this right by default.

11. Children's Privacy

StreamTranslate is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with their data, please contact us immediately.

12. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, secure database storage, and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the bottom of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of StreamTranslate after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
