Cookie Policy
What cookies and similar technologies StreamTranslate uses, why we use them, and how to control them.
1. What This Policy Covers
This policy explains how StreamTranslate uses cookies, localStorage, and similar tracking technologies when you visit our website or use our service. By "cookies" we mean any technology that stores or reads small pieces of data in your browser — including HTTP cookies, browser localStorage, sessionStorage, and tracking pixels.
For broader information about how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
2. Essential Cookies & Storage
These are required for StreamTranslate to function. You cannot opt out of these without breaking the service.
- Session token (localStorage
st_session_token) — keeps you signed in across page reloads. Removed when you sign out. - Room ID & fingerprint (localStorage) — links your browser to your StreamTranslate room so your settings persist across visits.
- Language preferences (localStorage) — your saved spoken and translation language choices.
- Socket.IO transport cookies — used to maintain the real-time real-time connection connection that delivers live translation.
- Admin session cookie (
st_admin_session, HttpOnly) — only set if you are an authorized administrator.
3. Analytics Cookies
We use analytics to understand how visitors find and use StreamTranslate, so we can improve the product. These can be opted out of.
- Google Analytics 4 (
_ga,_ga_*) — measures page visits, traffic sources, and session duration. Google Privacy Policy - PostHog (
ph_*) — product analytics: which features are used, where users drop off, how funnels convert. PostHog Privacy Policy
4. Advertising & Conversion Cookies
We run paid advertising on a handful of platforms to find new streamers who might benefit from StreamTranslate. These cookies measure ad performance and help avoid showing you the same ad over and over.
- Google Ads (
_gcl_au,_gcl_aw) — conversion tracking and remarketing audiences. - Meta Pixel (
_fbp,_fbc) — Facebook/Instagram conversion tracking. Meta Privacy Policy - TikTok Pixel (
_ttp) — TikTok ad performance measurement. TikTok Privacy Policy - Reddit Pixel — Reddit ad performance measurement. Reddit Privacy Policy
5. How to Control or Disable Cookies
You have several ways to limit or block the cookies described above:
- Browser settings — every major browser lets you block, delete, or auto-clear cookies. Check the privacy settings in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
- Tracking protection — features like Safari Intelligent Tracking Prevention, Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection, and Brave Shields block most analytics and advertising cookies by default.
- Google Analytics opt-out — install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Ad personalization opt-outs — Google Ads Settings, Meta Ad Preferences, TikTok.
- Do Not Track — we respect the DNT signal sent by some browsers for non-essential analytics.
Blocking essential cookies will break sign-in and live translation. Blocking analytics and advertising cookies has no effect on the service itself.
6. Third-Party Cookies
Some pages of StreamTranslate embed content from third parties (for example, demo videos hosted on our CDN). Those providers may set their own cookies subject to their own policies. We do not control or have access to those cookies.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our analytics or advertising stack changes. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the bottom of this page. Continued use of StreamTranslate after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
