There are two destinations to connect
Your phone’s streaming app sends video and audio toward YouTube. StreamTranslate also needs a supported audio route to recognize speech. Sending RTMP video to YouTube by itself does not connect that audio to StreamTranslate.
Open the IRL guide for the supported phone relay and cloud setups. Choose the workflow that matches your app and equipment.
Keep the caption URL with the broadcast
In the exact Studio broadcast receiving the phone stream, enable POST captions to URL. Copy its caption destination into Control. Match the selected subtitle language between Control and Studio before starting.
Run a private field test
- Confirm private broadcast visibility and the correct video destination.
- Confirm StreamTranslate receives the phone audio.
- Say a short phrase and check its text on the actual YouTube player.
- Change network conditions during a private test and verify new speech recovers.
- Stop the test and confirm both streaming and caption capture have ended.
Hardware does not guarantee separate speakers
A two-microphone receiver can still mix voices into one feed. Separate-speaker captioning requires the app and every audio stage to preserve separation. This native YouTube guide covers one caption output language; it does not establish stereo support for every phone app.
Check the phone route before a public outing
Rehearse with the same phone app, microphone receiver and network path you plan to use outside. First check the source audio for clear speech, then verify incoming text in Control, then the native YouTube captions. If a network handoff interrupts video, check caption recovery separately after the picture returns. Keep a record of which stage recovered and which did not. A successful test on home Wi-Fi does not establish uninterrupted behavior on every cellular network or app configuration.
Sources and setup limits
See YouTube’s official requirements for the underlying caption transport and latency modes. Actual behavior must also be checked on your own broadcast.
Common questions
Does every RTMP phone app work automatically?
No. The video destination and the audio route into StreamTranslate must both be supported and configured.
Can I use my phone without OBS?
Supported direct phone workflows can avoid a local OBS computer. Follow the IRL guide for the specific route and test the complete path before a public stream.
