Start with the broadcast identity
Open the Studio broadcast marked live and use its Share link to open the watch page. Verify that your encoder is delivering video there. Then check that the caption URL in Control came from that same broadcast.
A different Studio tab can accept caption posts while the video you are watching has no captions. A successful HTTP post alone does not prove captions reached that viewer page.
Check Studio’s caption configuration
Enable closed captions and select POST captions to URL. Match the subtitle language chosen in Control. Avoid Ultra low latency: YouTube’s Live API documentation lists closed captions as unsupported in that mode.
Check speech and delivery separately
- Say a short phrase and confirm text appears in StreamTranslate’s live preview.
- Confirm the YouTube caption destination is enabled.
- Check for an ingestion error rather than assuming the green connection message means posts succeeded.
- Wait for the matching video audio in the player and look for new caption text.
Check startup and reconnect behavior
If captions work only after a refresh, note whether you refreshed Control or the YouTube player. If audio continues but captions stop, record when it began and whether disabling/re-enabling the caption destination during a private test restores it.
Collect evidence without exposing keys
Capture the Studio title, privacy, latency mode and selected caption language with the ingestion field masked. Capture the matching watch page and Control’s caption status separately. Note whether speech appears in Control and whether any native captions have appeared at all. This narrows a report to missing audio, a wrong destination, posting failure or player presentation. Avoid repeatedly generating new links before identifying which connection is missing; changing multiple destinations at once makes the original fault harder to isolate.
Sources and setup limits
See YouTube’s official requirements for the underlying caption transport and latency modes. Actual behavior must also be checked on your own broadcast.
Common questions
Can OBS audio meters prove native CC is working?
No. They only establish that audio exists in OBS. StreamTranslate must receive speech and YouTube must receive and present the caption feed.
Will regenerating my overlay URL fix native CC?
The overlay URL and native YouTube caption ingestion URL serve different outputs. Check the native caption destination first.
