For an OBS broadcast, send the speaker’s audio to StreamTranslate, choose English as the source and check the Tagalog option for your intended Filipino audience, then display translated subtitles with a Browser Source. This is a streaming workflow, not a dedicated in-room presentation app.
Agree on the language and the viewing experience
Ask the people who will read the captions which language and wording they expect. StreamTranslate’s selector labels the relevant option Tagalog. Do not assume that one label covers every regional language used by your congregation or that automatic translation will choose the familiar wording for religious terms.
Decide whether viewers will see captions inside the broadcast video or through a separate supported caption output. If you also need text on a sanctuary projector, plan that display with your AV team separately. A working livestream overlay does not prove that a room display is readable from the back row.
Send the spoken microphone, not the whole room
A clean feed from the speaker’s microphone gives the caption system a clearer task than a camera microphone across the room. Identify the OBS source that actually receives that feed. Keep background music and unrelated announcements out of it where your mixer setup allows.
Attach the StreamTranslate audio filter to that source and use the connection key from Control. An alternative is Control’s browser microphone route with an appropriate input device. Choose one capture path for the same speech. Test what happens when the sound operator mutes the sermon microphone or switches to another speaker.
Build and review a short rehearsal
- Set English as the spoken language and select Tagalog for the translated subtitle output.
- Read a short excerpt containing names, a scripture reference and an ordinary explanatory sentence.
- Check the recognized English before reviewing the translation.
- Ask a fluent reader whether the translation preserves the intended meaning and terminology.
- Repeat with the actual microphone, mixer and speaking distance planned for the service.
Keep a small rehearsal sheet of terms that need attention. Automated captions should not be presented as an authoritative translation of scripture or a replacement for human interpretation.
Place the captions around slides and lyrics
Add the Browser Source URL from Control to the OBS scene. Leave clear space for captions rather than placing them over a scripture slide’s final line. Check both a close camera shot and the most text-heavy scene you expect to use.
Music and sung lyrics are a different recognition challenge. Prepared, reviewed lyric slides may be more appropriate than automatically translating the entire music mix. If you show English text and translated captions together, use a consistent position and enough contrast for viewers on small screens.
Assign an operator and a fallback
One person should watch incoming speech, caption output and the destination player during the rehearsal. Agree on how to pause audio capture during private conversations or a microphone handover. With the OBS filter, use Pause sending audio; hiding the overlay alone does not stop capture.
Prepare a simple fallback, such as reviewed notes or a human explanation of the key message. If translation becomes unreliable, the operator should know which caption path to pause without disrupting the video service. Resume only after a clear test sentence confirms the intended source is connected.
Quick answers
Is Filipino available in the language picker?
The current live-caption selector includes Tagalog. Check it with the intended audience and a fluent reviewer rather than assuming it matches every Filipino regional language.
Can this automatically caption hymns accurately?
Speech recognition and translation can struggle with music and overlapping voices. Rehearse separately and use reviewed lyric material where appropriate.
Does this install a church presentation application?
No. This guide covers a current broadcast audio-and-overlay workflow. It does not promise a released in-room presentation application or automatic projector integration.
