For StreamTranslate, browser microphone capture can feed a supported caption output, and an OBS audio filter can run on a receiving home or cloud computer. YouTube also supports the documented separate caption feed. These routes are not a general browser-controlled RTMP caption-encoding service.
Separate audio, video transport and caption output
| Part | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Audio input | Where does the speech enter the caption service? |
| Video delivery | What sends the broadcast to the platform? |
| Caption output | Does the audience receive native CC, an extension or video text? |
An RTMP destination can transport a stream without automatically adding captions. Likewise, a caption Browser Source is a display, not a microphone input or proof that the video contains native caption data.
Use a browser microphone with a supported output
For a simple speech input, open Control, choose My Voice, select the microphone and set the spoken language. Start captions and check the source preview. Keep the capture page open for the session.
On Twitch, a configured StreamTranslate extension can display captions to viewers independently of an OBS overlay. Your video broadcast still needs its own streaming application or encoder. Do not confuse starting the caption session with starting video. Confirm the extension on the actual live channel after connecting the audio.
Use the receiver when your phone already streams elsewhere
If a phone sends its camera and microphone to home or cloud OBS, the caption audio filter can run on that receiver. The phone keeps its usual video ingest while the filter sends the relevant speech to StreamTranslate.
Install the plugin on the machine actually receiving the stream, not only on a laptop you carry. Your cloud provider may need to perform that installation. Attach the filter to the phone-feed audio source and connect it with the key from Control. Then choose the Twitch extension or add a Browser Source in the receiver’s composition.
Choose native CC when the player control is required
StreamText documents a specialist workflow for embedding caption data into RTMP delivery, with its own event configuration and caption sources. That is different from placing a web overlay on a video. Evaluate destination and encoder compatibility when that architecture is what your event requires.
StreamTranslate’s documented YouTube route sends one selected caption language to the same broadcast using the captions-ingestion URL. In YouTube Studio, use Normal latency and POST captions to URL, then match the language in Control. The current StreamTranslate OBS audio filter does not itself create Twitch’s native CC track.
Rehearse from speech to the remote player
- Confirm that the chosen audio input produces new source words.
- Check the selected translation, if one is required.
- Verify the correct channel, broadcast or display destination.
- Open the audience player on a separate device and check the intended caption control.
- Pause and resume the input, then stop it deliberately at the end.
If native CC is missing, diagnose the caption feed or encoder path rather than refreshing an unrelated Browser Source. If the extension is blank, check the channel activation and audio session. Keep the video destination intact while testing caption delivery.
Quick answers
Does without local OBS mean no software runs anywhere?
No. A browser, phone app, cloud receiver or caption service still performs capture and delivery. The point is choosing where those responsibilities run.
Can StreamTranslate add native CC to every RTMP platform?
No universal RTMP caption-encoding service is claimed. Use the documented output for your destination, including the separate YouTube feed where appropriate.
Can I hide the captions to stop audio processing?
Hiding a display is not the same as stopping capture. End the browser session, pause the audio filter or stop the relevant phone destination, depending on your setup.
