How to use Watch Party

Watch a live stream or video with translated subtitles in Control. Watch Party captures supported browser tab audio and offers 65 caption languages.

    Choose your languages

    Open Control and sign in to your Elite account. Under I Speak, choose the language spoken in the video. Under Subtitles In, choose the language you want to read.

    Want both languages? Elite also supports a second translation language.

    Switch to Watch Party

    In Stream Control, select Watch Party, then press Choose tab & translate. This opens your browser's sharing dialog.

    This mode captures audio from the browser tab you choose. You can watch with subtitles in Control without setting up OBS or installing the Chat Translator extension.

    Share the tab's audio

    Open your video or live stream in another browser tab. In the sharing dialog, select Tab, choose that tab, enable Share tab audio, and press Share.

    Choose a tab, not a window or entire screen. Use desktop Chrome if your browser doesn't offer tab-audio sharing.

    Play and follow along

    Play the content and make sure the tab isn't muted. Speech becomes translated subtitles in Control.

    Putting captions on your own stream? Copy your Browser Source URL into OBS or Streamlabs as a Browser Source. Match its dimensions to your canvas, such as 1920 × 1080 for a landscape scene. This overlays text in your video; it does not create a native player CC track.

    Keep the shared tab and Control open. When you're done, press Stop translating in Control. To translate your microphone again, return to Your microphone.

Before you start

No sound or captions?

Check that the video is playing, the tab isn't muted, and Share tab audio was enabled. If you selected a window or screen, stop and share the browser tab instead.

Do I need OBS or an extension?

No. For watching with translated subtitles in Control, you only need a browser that supports sharing tab audio. OBS is optional: use it if you want the subtitles on your own stream.

Which content can I translate?

Videos, live streams, podcasts and lectures whose audio your browser can share. Browser support and content protections vary by service. A protected video may play normally while audio capture is unavailable; check the shared audio before your session. Watch Party does not unlock restricted content.

Is this the free Chat Translator?

They handle different inputs. Free Chat Translator translates written messages and reply drafts in supported desktop live chats. Watch Party translates captured tab audio and requires Elite. For recorded files, use the separately billed Video & VOD Translator.

Which plan and languages are supported?

Watch Party requires Elite. Choose from 65 supported languages in Control. Elite includes unlimited streaming hours and dual-language subtitles.
