StreamTranslate’s browser microphone mode turns connected speech into live text captions and translations. Select the actual spoken language and intended subtitle language in Control, allow microphone access and start the session. It does not turn your voice into translated spoken audio.
Configure speech recognition before judging translation
Choose the microphone closest to the intended speaker and test it at the volume they will use. A headset microphone and a laptop microphone can hear very different mixes even on the same computer. Check the source text for a short sentence containing a name, number and topic-specific term.
If the original transcript is wrong, the translation may be fluent yet still wrong. Confirm the spoken-language setting and reduce competing speech or music before trying more output languages. For a session with changing speakers or languages, rehearse the transitions you need; do not assume this single-input setup supplies named-speaker separation or automatic bilingual conversation handling.
Choose between reading text and hearing translation
Some live translation products, including the linked Maestra page, describe captioning alongside speech playback, speaker recognition and sharing features. Those functions should be evaluated separately. StreamTranslate’s workflow here produces readable text while leaving your original voice in the broadcast.
| Requirement | Route |
|---|---|
| Read your speech in another language | Browser microphone captions in Control. |
| Let Twitch viewers choose a language | A linked and activated StreamTranslate channel extension. |
| Show a fixed translation in the video | A Browser Source in compatible streaming software. |
| Hear a translated voice | A separate dubbing or interpretation service. |
Run the browser session and audience check
- Open Control, select Your microphone and choose the correct input.
- Set the spoken language and the caption language you want to display.
- Grant microphone access and start capture.
- Speak a complete sentence and confirm the source and translated text.
- Connect and test the intended audience output, keeping the capture page open.
For a Twitch extension, verify the channel’s language control as a viewer. For YouTube native captions, use the same broadcast’s HTTP ingestion URL and one selected caption language. For a visible overlay, inspect the active scene and final video rather than only the preview in Control.
Operate a session people can follow
Keep speech natural and avoid talking over another speaker during a rehearsal. Review whether the text stays readable when sentences become longer. If important terminology repeatedly fails, note concrete examples for troubleshooting rather than changing several settings simultaneously. A translated caption is assistance for following speech, not a certified transcript of every statement.
Plan the allowance for the languages active during the session and stop browser capture in Control when finished. If the source is a video playing in another tab, use Elite Watch Party instead of a room microphone. If you need a presentation desktop overlay or native meeting integration, verify that product separately; this browser caption guide does not claim those staged or unverified features are released.
Quick answers
Can StreamTranslate read the translation aloud?
The workflow described here generates text captions. Spoken translation, voice cloning and dubbing are separate requirements and are not supplied by this browser-caption setup.
Can I use the microphone and a video tab interchangeably?
No. Choose the source deliberately. Microphone mode captures an input device; Elite Watch Party captures a selected browser tab through its audio-sharing dialog.
What should I check when translation seems wrong?
Inspect the recognized source sentence, spoken-language setting and audio clarity first. Then review the translated wording with someone who understands the target language when accuracy matters.
