Use Elite Watch Party for supported browser-tab audio, or attach the StreamTranslate OBS audio filter to the OBS source carrying the speech. A microphone-only browser session does not automatically hear desktop audio.
Select an input based on the material
| Material | Suitable starting route |
|---|---|
| Your commentary | My Voice or a microphone source with the OBS filter |
| A video in a browser tab | Elite Watch Party with tab-audio sharing |
| A feed already received by OBS | Filter on the source that carries its audio |
A browser tab is a narrower input than the entire desktop. If you choose a received OBS source, confirm that its audio meter responds to the intended speaker and not only to game effects or music.
Capture a supported browser tab
- Sign in to an Elite account in Control and set the spoken and subtitle languages.
- Choose Watch Party, then Choose tab & translate.
- In the browser sharing dialog, choose the tab playing your content and enable Share tab audio.
- Play the content and confirm translated words appear in Control.
- Keep both the shared tab and Control open while using the session.
Choose Tab rather than a whole window or screen. Desktop Chrome is a useful starting point when another browser does not expose tab-audio sharing. Protected content can play normally while capture remains unavailable.
Capture speech that is already inside OBS
For an incoming phone feed, guest source or other routed input, first establish clean audio in OBS. Add the StreamTranslate filter to that source and connect it using the plugin stream key from Control’s Cloud OBS / OBS plugin option.
This does not automatically separate people within a mixed soundtrack. If the source contains your microphone, a guest and music together, that mixture is what captioning receives. Improve the routing before asking translation to solve it. Keep browser microphone capture off when the same voice is already supplied through the filter.
Display the result without feeding it back
Copy the Browser Source URL from Control into your OBS scene. Place the caption layer above the relevant video and use the dimensions specified in setup. The overlay displays text; it should not become another route for capturing the original audio.
Use headphones while watching your own output. A loud monitor can send the delayed broadcast back through your microphone, producing repeated or unrelated lines. If you are translating someone else’s content for your own stream, confirm your permission to rebroadcast it; a caption tool does not grant rights to the underlying media.
Test source boundaries, not just one sentence
Play a short speech sample, pause it, then speak into your microphone. If the tab-only route is intended, your room speech should not become its new captions. Reverse the test for a microphone-only route. This simple comparison reveals accidental mixed capture.
Next, change scenes and confirm the correct caption display remains visible. Test a harmless reconnect before an important broadcast. When finished, press Stop translating for Watch Party or Pause sending audio in the OBS filter. Muting the visible overlay or ending only the video output does not reliably end caption capture.
Quick answers
Can Watch Party capture any desktop application?
Its documented route captures audio from a shared browser tab. It is not a system-wide capture service for every desktop app.
Does this require a virtual audio cable?
Not for supported tab sharing or an OBS source already carrying the speech. Other routing arrangements may need additional software, which should be tested independently.
Can every viewer choose the overlay language?
An OBS overlay shows the selected language in the video. Independent viewer language selection is available through the separate Twitch extension on an enabled channel.
