IRL Toolkit live translated subtitles

Use StreamTranslate with IRL Toolkit by adding its audio plugin to your Cloud OBS server. Your normal IRL Toolkit ingest and Twitch destination stay in place. The filter captures the received audio for translated captions.

What you need

  • An IRL Toolkit Cloud OBS server and access to its remote OBS interface.
  • Provider approval and installation of the StreamTranslate audio plugin.
  • A StreamTranslate account with streaming hours and a linked Twitch account if using the Extension.

Use the account and URLs for the same environment. A staging caption feed does not appear in the released Twitch Extension unless the test channel is deliberately connected to staging.

Choose your caption output

Twitch Extension: each viewer chooses their language and appearance. Keep your Twitch account linked and the Extension active on your channel.

Browser Source: you choose the language, colors and appearance in Control. The captions are included in your video for everyone.

Do not activate two audio capture routes for the same voice. The Browser Source URL is for display; the RTMP URL or OBS plugin supplies audio.

Setup steps

  1. Request server-side installation

Contact IRL Toolkit support and link the StreamTranslate OBS plugin repository. Ask for installation on your server, with a build compatible with their Linux OBS environment.

  2. Find the incoming audio source

In remote OBS, identify the source carrying your phone or backpack audio. A source called Translations or a captions scene is not proof the audio plugin is installed.

  3. Add StreamTranslate as an audio filter

Open that source’s Filters menu and add StreamTranslate. Paste only the account key after /live/ from your Control IRL Mode URL. Check the filter status while speaking.

  4. Display the translated captions

Activate your linked Twitch Extension for personalized languages. Alternatively add your StreamTranslate Browser Source URL to the broadcast scene for captions you control.

  5. Test normal IRL transitions

Check the ingest, low-bitrate and offline scenes. Speak again after the phone reconnects and confirm new captions arrive without duplicate capture.

What IRL Toolkit controls

IRL Toolkit manages the Cloud OBS server and which plugins can run there. Installing a plugin on your own computer does not add it to the cloud server.

The audio plugin is an OBS integration, not a claim that IRL Toolkit has preinstalled StreamTranslate for every customer. Keep the provider’s ordinary ingest and streaming destination enabled.

For help, use the provider’s Support Bot or [email protected]. Do not send account keys in public channels. The detailed IRL Hub has the current installation request and platform steps.

Frequently asked questions

Why is StreamTranslate absent from the audio filters?

The plugin may not be installed or loaded on the cloud server. Ask the provider to check its installation and OBS build compatibility.

Do I have to upload another full phone stream?

With the audio plugin on the existing Cloud OBS ingest, the filter sends audio from the server. You do not need a second full video upload from the phone for that capture route.

Do I need to leave the Control microphone running?

No. In IRL Mode, audio comes from your RTMP destination or the OBS audio plugin. Use Control to change settings; do not start a second browser microphone session.

Who chooses the subtitle language?

With the Twitch Extension, each viewer chooses their own language and appearance. With a Browser Source, you choose the language and appearance in Control and viewers see those captions in your video.

How should I adjust caption timing?

For Twitch Extension viewers, internal testing found 3–5 seconds is the sweet spot. Adjust to your actual video delay. This setting does not delay a Browser Source composited into your broadcast.
