TVU Go live subtitles with OBS
Use TVU Go’s documented OBS connection to bring your phone feed into OBS, then capture that source with the StreamTranslate audio plugin. Your existing receiver handles video delivery while StreamTranslate creates the translated captions.
Open ControlChoose your IRL setupWhat you need
- TVU Go and access to its OBS destination.
- Home or Cloud OBS with our audio plugin installed.
- An active StreamTranslate account and your chosen caption display route.
Use the account and URLs for the same environment. A staging caption feed does not appear in the released Twitch Extension unless the test channel is deliberately connected to staging.
Choose your caption output
Twitch Extension: each viewer chooses their language and appearance. Keep your Twitch account linked and the Extension active on your channel.
Browser Source: you choose the language, colors and appearance in Control. The captions are included in your video for everyone.
Do not activate two audio capture routes for the same voice. The Browser Source URL is for display; the RTMP URL or OBS plugin supplies audio.
Setup steps
- Enable TVU Go’s OBS destination
In TVU Go’s destination settings, choose OBS and use the connection mode described in its current OBS guide. The published guide uses SRT Listener mode.
- Copy the current connection URL
Start the TVU feed and copy its OBS connection URL. TVU says a new URL is generated for each stream, so use the current one and keep it private.
- Receive the feed in OBS
Create an OBS Media Source, disable Local File and paste the TVU connection URL into Input. Verify picture and sound before adding caption capture.
- Add the StreamTranslate audio filter
Attach the filter to the received source and paste the account key after /live/ from Control IRL Mode. Check the filter’s connected status while speaking.
- Choose the viewer output
Activate the linked Twitch Extension or add your Browser Source URL to the OBS scene. Test a language change and reconnection before a long IRL stream.
Do not mix the two connection URLs
TVU’s OBS connection URL receives its video feed. StreamTranslate’s RTMP URL publishes a separate caption feed. They are different directions and are not interchangeable.
The OBS route avoids requiring a second full phone video upload specifically for StreamTranslate. The filter sends audio from the receiver, though TVU’s own delivery still uses data and internet.
TVU also documents HTML overlays. Adding our Browser Source URL can display captions, but an overlay alone is not audio capture. First establish the OBS audio-filter connection.
Frequently asked questions
Should I paste our RTMP URL into TVU’s SRT Listener configuration?
No. Follow TVU’s receiver instructions and use its connection URL in OBS. Our public RTMP address is not an SRT listener URL.
Why does the feed stop after I restart TVU?
Check whether OBS still uses the previous TVU connection URL. TVU’s guide says the connection URL changes for each new stream.
Do I need to leave the Control microphone running?
No. In IRL Mode, audio comes from your RTMP destination or the OBS audio plugin. Use Control to change settings; do not start a second browser microphone session.
Who chooses the subtitle language?
With the Twitch Extension, each viewer chooses their own language and appearance. With a Browser Source, you choose the language and appearance in Control and viewers see those captions in your video.
How should I adjust caption timing?
For Twitch Extension viewers, internal testing found 3–5 seconds is the sweet spot. Adjust to your actual video delay. This setting does not delay a Browser Source composited into your broadcast.
