Getting started

What is StreamTranslate Studio?

Studio brings StreamTranslate’s streaming tools together. Choose live captions, Twitch captions, IRL workflows, OBS audio capture, ClipLab, video translation, Chat Translator or Watch Party. These are separate tools, not one all-inclusive subscription.

Where should I start?

For spoken captions, open the live-caption setup guide. For clips, open ClipLab. For written-chat translation, install Chat Translator from its landing page. You can use one tool without setting up all the others.

Do I have to replace my streaming setup?

No. StreamTranslate works alongside supported existing tools. Captions can display through an OBS Browser Source or a broadcaster-enabled Twitch caption extension. Phone, audio-capture and browser requirements vary by workflow.

Live captions, Twitch and IRL

How do live translated captions work?

Choose your audio input and caption languages in StreamTranslate Control. Send that audio to StreamTranslate, then display the captions in a Browser Source or the Twitch caption extension. Live captions support 65 translation languages. Translation quality and delay depend on the audio, connection and settings.

What does the Twitch caption extension do?

The broadcaster enables StreamTranslate CC and provides an active StreamTranslate audio session. Each viewer can choose their caption language in the Twitch player. It translates spoken-audio captions, not written chat.

How do I add captions to an IRL stream?

Use the IRL guide for your supported phone or RTMP setup, or a home or cloud OBS receiver. Moblin, Larix, PRISM and TVU Go have different setup requirements. Keep your caption-session and broadcast destinations configured as the guide describes.

What is the OBS audio plugin for?

The plugin captures an OBS source’s audio and sends it to StreamTranslate. A separate Browser Source shows the captions. Installing the plugin does not provide unlimited free caption processing; your caption plan and hours still apply.

ClipLab and video tools

What is included in ClipLab?

ClipLab is a collection within Studio: a Twitch clip tracker, portrait video downloader and video translator. Tracking and portrait downloads are free tools with limits. Video translation is paid separately.

Does the Twitch clip tracker create or download clips?

No. Enter a Twitch channel to follow its newest available clips. Availability and Twitch API limits apply. Tracking does not create clips, automatically find highlights, download files or translate videos.

What does the portrait video downloader do?

It formats supported public video links as portrait MP4s with blurred background fill. Platform access and job limits apply. Translation is not included in a free download. Only use videos you have the right to download and reuse.

How does video translation work?

Upload a video, clip or VOD, choose subtitle languages, customize the captions and download the subtitled video. The translator supports 60 video subtitle languages and up to three subtitle tracks. Processing is automated, so review the result before publishing.

Chat and Watch Party

What does Chat Translator support?

Chat Translator is a free desktop browser extension for written chat and reply drafts on Twitch, YouTube, Kick, X and TikTok LIVE. It does not translate stream audio, whole timelines, X Spaces or platform mobile apps. Supported features can vary by platform.

Do viewers need a StreamTranslate account for Chat Translator?

No. Chat Translator does not require a StreamTranslate account, subscription or API key. Text is sent directly to Google for translation. Reply drafts are translated when the user chooses Translate; sending remains the user’s action.

What is Watch Party?

Watch Party turns supported browser tab audio into live translated subtitles in 65 caption languages. It is included with Elite. Browser audio-sharing support and content protections can limit what can be captured.

Free tools and billing

Is everything included in one subscription?

No. Free Chat Translator, clip tracking and portrait downloads have their own limits. Live captions use caption plans or available streaming hours. Watch Party is included with Elite. Video translation is billed separately.

What does the Free live-caption Plan include?

The Free Plan includes 3 active streaming hours every month. A card is required, with no payment unless you choose to upgrade. Paid caption plans and Stream Pass hours are available separately. Check the pricing page for current allowances and options.

How much does video translation cost?

Video translation costs $0.20 per minute, with a $0.50 minimum. It is separate from live-caption subscriptions and does not require a live-caption plan.

Where can I get help with my setup?

Open the setup guide for live captions, the IRL guide for supported phone workflows, or the OBS plugin guide for audio capture. If you still need help, contact StreamTranslate support with the tool you are using and what happened.
